REDUCED July and August holiday dates available at Vanilla Cottage
How to get to us
How to reach our three seperate Monmouthshire Cottages ( whether by Public Transport or using your own car or cycle.)
When you make a booking we will send you detailed directions as to how to find your cottage and how to get in! We recommend you use our directions rather than a SAT NAV as we choose the easy way for you to find us- but a "Sat Nag "will do it eventually. We know not everyone will arrive by car so here are some details of the alternatives
Tintern Abbey Cottage
Postcode NP166SF
National Buses from London Victoria,Heathrow Gatwick Swansea, and more local buses from Bristol, call at Chepstow Bus station. Some National Buses from Scotland and the north ( often Via Birmingham) call at Monmouth most days.
Trains from Gloucester and Cardiff ( with connections elsewhere of course) call at Chepstow Railway station (The distance from the railway station to the bus station is only approx 10 mins walk but is awkward with a suitcase, even wheeled.) There is a Tesco supermarket at the railway station and a Co Op at the bus station. Although we prefer to recommend independent shops these are very convenient for purchases on arrival. Several supermarkets will also deliver on line orders to the cottage so if you dont have a car shopping is still easy.
The 69 bus runs from Chepstow bus station to Monmouth bus station and VV and stops at Tintern Abbey. This is approx 30 yards from us! Up to date timetable can be downloaded here http://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/downloads/file/2642/69_chepstow-monmouth
Taxis are available in both Monmouth and Chepstow. Contact us if you would like help to pre book one.
With the convenient bus stop and lots to do accessible on foot as well this cottage is well suited to a busy visit without a car or with only limited use of yours for easy access to further away places.
If you are coming by cycle we can offer a lockable storage shed.
Foxes Reach
Postcode NP166NA
There is no bus to Foxes Reach which is approx 1.5 miles uphill from Tintern. Therefore we suggest arriving in Monmouth or Chepstow as above but taking a taxi from those towns to the cottage if you have baggage. Food can be ordered on line for delivery or call at the supermarkets as above. The nearest pub is 1.5 miles. You will need to walk to Tintern or Trellech to find pubs or buses- so you really need wheels to explore this lovely area.
We can store bikes in a lockable garage if requested ahead and they can be hired locally.
We feel that this cottage is great for a walking weekend but not ideally suited to a longer and totally a car free sightseeing holiday so usually recommend that you bring and use a car but park up and walk or cycle a lot as well . We do have very attractive market towns and attractions -and brilliant walking from the doorstep it would be a pity to miss.
Vanilla Cottage
Postcode NP151JZ
Long Distance buses and Trains arrive at Newport ( 18 miles )and Abergavenny ( 6 miles) and there are buses from Newport and Abergavenny to and from Usk ( 3 miles) however there is no bus anywhere close to the cottage. Food can be delivered as above. The nearest eateries are a golf course restaurant approx 300 yards and a great pub with excellent food just under a mile .(The riverside pub 300 yards has been sold and is undergoing refurbishment) The nearest shops are Usk with larger supermarkets in Newport and Abergavenny. The most convenient arrival option is to Newport or to Abergavenny and then a taxi to the cottage.
We feel that this cottage is great for a walking weekend without a car but not ideally suited to a longer stay which is totally car free as sightseeing without wheels is difficult and there is lots of it worth doing! We recommend that you bring and use a car to some extent but that you also park up and walk a lot as well as we do have very attractive market towns , attractions worth the drive -and brilliant walking from the doorstep and in the locality it would be a pity to miss.
